Remember with any pattern you
1. Complete the next couple of patterns
2. Fill in the table
3. Plot the graph using dots/crosses
4. Find the first difference - if it is the same it is a linear pattern
5. Find the rule y = first difference×x+c
4. If the first difference changes we then find the second difference
If the second differences are the same it is a quadratic pattern.
We halve the second difference to find the number in front of x2
